For example, Site1 and Site2. Site1 is a quality site while Site2 is nothing. They both have the same target of people and Site2 want to get much visitors just like Site1 have. So to do that, Site2 post a link to Site1 in order to have big traffic as Site1.

Backlinks can increase your blog or website's page rank when you use it on right things. If you are posting Backlinks to other sites, the blog or website that you want to put your Backlinks must have the same niche or the same target of people as your blog or website and also it should be a quality site. Quality meaning a lot of users are visiting that site.

Backlinks can bring high traffic to your blog or website if the link you are posting to other site is relevant to what visitors are looking for. Your post must get the attention of the visitor in the site where you post your link.

Backlinks are like the hook in the fish rod, the relevance of your link is like a bait and the readers are like fishes in the ocean. If they see a bait in your hook, they will bite it and you could take them to your boat which is your blog or site.

Now, we are finish in discussion about Backlinks and its time now for the steps in making a good Backlink for your blog or site. Just follow the steps:

Step 1: Look for a blog or website where lots of visitors are coming. It is a must because if the blog or website where you post your Backlink dont have traffic, nothing will happen to your blog and will still remains the same with no visitors. It should also be a trusted site so you wont get banned in the Search Engines.

Step 2: Before posting in some blog or site, see if it has the same niche as your blog or site. The link that you want to post must be relevant to the topic to attract your readers to come and visit your blog or site. Do not post your link that are not related in topic of some site or blog. Practices That Should Be Avoided in Making Backlinks
Below are the list of practices that needs to be avoid to be safe in google's eye and other search engines:

1. Link Exchange - This process is like you put a link to a site and they put a backlink to your blog or site. There are a some important things to know with link exchange. First, take a look at the ratio between outbound and inbound links. If your outbound links are the same numbers as your inbound, this is dangerous. Second is the risk that your link exchange partners are link farms. In this case, your blog or site could get banned from the google search engines and other search engines you submit your blog or site.

2. Linking To Not Trusted Sites - While it is true that search engines do not punish you if you have backlinks from such places because it is supposed that you have no control over what bad guys link to, if you made a link exchange with the so called bad neighbors, your efforts in SEO will be wasted.

That's all. I hope you learn a lot about Backlinks.
Happy SEO everyone.
